Bulletin n. 6937
16/02/2024 - 10:11
The number of VLP seismic events (standard values 5-12) is high, 13.1 events/hour.
The amplitude of seismic tremor is medium.
The infrasonic activity is medium. The acoustic pressure of explosions is low, 0.98 bar (standard values <1 bar). The amplitude of puffing is low, ~40 mbar.
Tiltmeters analysis does not show any significant deformation of the volcano edifice
Thermal activity of explosive events is low. The number of thermal transients in the NE sector of the crater (standard = 100) is low, 36. The amplitude of thermal transients is low, 0.25 ºF. Exit velocity of pyroclasts, estimated through thermal camera analysis, is low, 15 m/s.
MODIS thermal anomalies are low: 3 MW (01:04 UTC yesterday).
Rockfall activity is low. The number of rockfalls is 3 per day.
SO2 flux in the NE sector of the crater terrace is low, 51 t/d
CO2 flux based on the C/S of 4.71 mesured at 16:20 UTC on 2024/02/15 is low, 209 t/d

The volcanic activity is generally characterized by strombolian explosions, with ash emissions, located at the NE crater sector, with puffing localized at the C and SW crater sectors. In the last 24h, the Stromboli volcano showed a MEDIUM degassing activity (puffing with values of about 40 mbar). The explosive activity is MEDIUM (max acoustic pressure 0.98 bar). The number of explosions (thermal transients) are LOW, with a LOW thermal amplitude and LOW exit velocity of pyroclasts. The volcanic tremor shows MEDIUM values. The number of VLP events Increase to HIGH values (13.1 events/hour). MODIS/VIIRS images showed LOW thermal anomalies (max 3 MW). SO2 flux shows LOW values (51 t/d), CO2 flux shows LOW values (last: 209 t/d based on C/S value of 4.71 recorded on the 15/02/2024). The rockfall activity is LOW (n.3 events detected with LOW amplitude). The volcanic activity index is MEDIUM . NB Data are affected by adverse weather conditions: cloud cover
