Bulletin n. 6965

15/03/2024 - 12:09

The number of VLP seismic events (standard values 5-12) is medium, 9.2 events/hour.

The amplitude of seismic tremor is low.

The infrasonic activity is medium. The acoustic pressure of explosions is low, 0.6 bar (standard values <1 bar). The amplitude of puffing is low, ~20 mbar.

Tiltmeters analysis does not show any significant deformation of the volcano edifice

Thermal activity of explosive events is low. The number of thermal transients in the NE sector of the crater (standard = 100) is low, 15. The amplitude of thermal transients is low, 0.85 ºF. Exit velocity of pyroclasts, estimated through thermal camera analysis, is medium, 32 m/s.

MODIS thermal anomalies are low: 2.99 MW (00:12 UTC yesterday).

Rockfall activity is low. The number of rockfalls is 3 per day.

SO2 flux in the NE sector of the crater terrace is low, 25 t/d

CO2 flux based on the C/S is not available

Indice di Attività Vulcanica: medium

  • Seismic (VLP) rate MEDIUM
  • Seismic tremor LOW
  • Puffing LOW
  • Acustic pression of explosions LOW
  • Thermal activity LOW
  • SO2 flux LOW
  • CO2 flux not available
  • Rockfall activity LOW

The volcanic activity is characterized by strombolian explosions located at NE crater and degassing activity (puffing) located at SW sector. In the last 24h Stromboli volcano shows explosive activity with general MEDIUM acoustic pressure (max 0.6 bar) and MEDIUM degassing activity (puffing 20 mbar). The number of VLP events shows MEDIUM values (9.2 events/hour). Thermal activity is characterized by LOW number of transients having LOW thermal amplitude and MEDIUM exit velocity of pyroclasts. The volcanic tremor is LOW. MODIS/VIIRS images show LOW thermal anomalies (max 2.99 MW). SO2 flux is LOW (25 t/d). No new data of CO2 flux are available. Rockfall activity is characterized by LOW number of events (3 events detected in the last 24h) with LOW seismic pseudo-volumes involved. The volcanic activity index is MEDIUM.
