Bulletin n. 7015
05/05/2024 - 12:13
The number of VLP seismic events (standard values 5-12) is high, 18.5 events/hour.
The amplitude of seismic tremor is high.
The infrasonic activity is high. The acoustic pressure of explosions is low, 0.89 bar (standard values <1 bar). The amplitude of puffing is medium, ~90 mbar.
Tiltmeters analysis does not show any significant deformation of the volcano edifice
Thermal activity of explosive events is medium. The number of thermal transients in the NE sector of the crater (standard = 100) is high, 315. The amplitude of thermal transients is low, 0.25 ºF. Exit velocity of pyroclasts, estimated through thermal camera analysis, is medium, 37 m/s.
MODIS thermal anomalies are low: 3 MW (00:30 UTC yesterday).
Rockfall activity is low. The number of rockfalls is 1 per day.
SO2 flux in the NE sector of the crater terrace is medium, 87 t/d
CO2 flux based on the C/S of 4.86 mesured at 02:20 UTC on 2024/05/05 is medium, 433 t/d

The volcanic activity is generally characterized by strombolian explosions, with ash emissions, located at the NE crater sector, with puffing localized at the NE, C and SW crater sectors. In the last 24h, the Stromboli volcano showed a HIGH degassing activity (puffing with values of about 90 mbar). The explosive activity is MEDIUM (max acoustic pressure 0.89 bar). The number of explosions (thermal transients) are HIGH, with a LOW thermal amplitude and MEDIUM exit velocity of pyroclasts. The volcanic tremor shows HIGH values. The number of VLP events showed HIGH values with an increasing trend (18.5 events/hour). MODIS/VIIRS images showed LOW thermal anomalies (max 3 MW). SO2 flux shows MEDIUM values (last: 87 t/d recorded on the 04/05/2024), CO2 flux shows MEDIUM values (last: 433 t/d based on C/S value of 4.86 recorded on the 05/05/2024). The rockfall activity is LOW (n.1 event detected with LOW amplitude). The volcanic activity index is HIGH.
