Bulletin n. 7026

16/05/2024 - 08:12

The number of VLP seismic events (standard values 5-12) is high, 15.9 events/hour.

The amplitude of seismic tremor is high.

The infrasonic activity is medium. The acoustic pressure of explosions is medium, 1 bar (standard values <1 bar). The amplitude of puffing is medium, ~80 mbar.

Tiltmeters analysis does not show any significant deformation of the volcano edifice

Thermal activity of explosive events is medium. The number of thermal transients in the NE sector of the crater (standard = 100) is high, 930. The amplitude of thermal transients is medium, 20 ºF. Exit velocity of pyroclasts, estimated through thermal camera analysis, is medium, 20 m/s.

MODIS thermal anomalies are low: 2 MW (12:06 UTC yesterday).

Rockfall activity is low. The number of rockfalls is 2 per day.

SO2 flux in the NE sector of the crater terrace is high, 195 t/d

CO2 flux based on the C/S of 3.82 mesured at 14:20 UTC on 2024/05/15 is medium, 496 t/d

Indice di Attività Vulcanica: high

  • Seismic (VLP) rate HIGH
  • Seismic tremor HIGH
  • Puffing MEDIUM
  • Acustic pression of explosions MEDIUM
  • Thermal activity MEDIUM
  • SO2 flux HIGH
  • CO2 flux MEDIUM
  • Rockfall activity LOW

The volcanic activity is generally characterized by strombolian explosions located at NE and SW crater sectors, and puffing localized at the NE sector. In the last 24h, the Stromboli volcano showed a HIGH degassing activity (puffing with values of about 80 mbar). The amplitude pressure of the explosions is MEDIUM (max acoustic pressure 1 bar). The number of explosions (thermal transients) are HIGH, with a MEDIUM thermal amplitude and MEDIUM exit velocity of pyroclasts. The volcanic tremor shows HIGH values. The number of VLP events showed HIGH values (15.9 events/hour). MODIS/VIIRS images showed LOW thermal anomalies (max 2 MW). SO2 flux in the last 24 hours is increased up to High values (191 t/d). The rockfall activity is LOW. The volcanic activity index is HIGH.
