Bulletin n. 7031
21/05/2024 - 08:09
The number of VLP seismic events (standard values 5-12) is high, 15.1 events/hour.
The amplitude of seismic tremor is medium.
The infrasonic activity is medium. The acoustic pressure of explosions is medium, 1.28 bar (standard values <1 bar). The amplitude of puffing is low, ~40 mbar.
Tiltmeters analysis does not show any significant deformation of the volcano edifice
Thermal activity of explosive events is medium. The number of thermal transients in the NE sector of the crater (standard = 100) is high, 401. The amplitude of thermal transients is low, 1 ºF. Exit velocity of pyroclasts, estimated through thermal camera analysis, is low, 15 m/s.
MODIS thermal anomalies: no thermal anomalies.
Rockfall activity is low. The number of rockfalls is 8 per day.
SO2 flux in the NE sector of the crater terrace is not available
CO2 flux based on the C/S is not available
Indice di Attività Vulcanica: high
- Seismic (VLP) rate HIGH
- Seismic tremor MEDIUM
- Puffing LOW
- Acustic pression of explosions MEDIUM
- Thermal activity MEDIUM
- SO2 flux not available
- CO2 flux not available
- Rockfall activity LOW
The volcanic activity is generally characterized by strombolian explosions and puffing located at NE and SW crater sectors. In the last 24h, the Stromboli volcano showed a MEDIUM degassing activity (puffing with values of about 40 mbar). The pressure of the explosions is MEDIUM (max acoustic pressure 1.3 bar). The number of thermal transients is HIGH, with LOW thermal amplitudes and LOW pyroclast exit velocities. The volcanic tremor shows MEDIUM values, with temporary increases up to HIGH values. The number of VLP events showed HIGH values (15.1 events/hour). MODIS/VIIRS images showed no thermal anomalies. The rockfall activity is LOW (8 events with LOW pseudo-volumes associated). The volcanic activity index is HIGH. N.B. Infrasonic activity could be underestimated due to adverse weather conditions (strong wind).
