Bulletin n. 7119
17/08/2024 - 09:02
The number of VLP seismic events (standard values 5-12) is medium, 10.1 events/hour.
The amplitude of seismic tremor is high.
The infrasonic activity is high. The acoustic pressure of explosions is low, 0.82 bar (standard values <1 bar). The amplitude of puffing is high, ~118 mbar.
Tiltmeters analysis does not show any significant deformation of the volcano edifice
Thermal activity of explosive events is high. The number of thermal transients in the NE sector of the crater (standard = 100) is high, 485. The amplitude of thermal transients is high, 49 ºF. Exit velocity of pyroclasts, estimated through thermal camera analysis, is high, 52 m/s.
MODIS thermal anomalies are low: 9 MW (01:18 UTC yesterday).
Rockfall activity is very high. The number of rockfalls is 31 per day.
SO2 flux in the NE sector of the crater terrace is very high, 300 t/d
CO2 flux based on the C/S is not available
Indice di Attività Vulcanica: high
- Seismic (VLP) rate MEDIUM
- Seismic tremor HIGH
- Puffing HIGH
- Acustic pression of explosions LOW
- Thermal activity HIGH
- SO2 flux VERY HIGH
- CO2 flux not available
- Rockfall activity VERY HIGH
The volcanic activity is generally characterized by strombolian explosions, rich in scoria, located at the NE crater sector and sustained explosions with only ash located at the SW crater sector, Degassing (puffing/spattering) is located at the NE crater sector. Spattering is characterized by HIGH to VERY HIGH values of pressure and this continuos activity is correlated with seismic tremor characterized from HIGH to VERY HIGH values. In the last 24h, the Stromboli volcano showed a VERY HIGH degassing activity (puffing/spattering with values of about 118 mbar). The explosive activity is HIGH (max acoustic pressure 0.8 bar). The number of explosions (thermal transients) are HIGH, with a HIGH thermal amplitude and HIGH exit velocity of pyroclasts. The volcanic tremor shows HIGH values. The number of VLP events showed MEDIUM values (10.1 events/hour). MODIS/VIIRS thermal data shows LOW values (max 9 MW), consistent with the observed activity SO2 flux shows VERY HIGH values (last: 300 t/d recorded on the 17/08/2024), CO2 flux shows non new data (last: 1333 t/d based on C/S value of 5.09 recorded on the 13/08/2024). The rockfall activity is VERY HIGH (31 events detected with LOW to VERY HIGH pseudo-volumes associated). The volcanic activity index is HIGH.
