Bulletin n. 7128
26/08/2024 - 09:27
The number of VLP seismic events (standard values 5-12) is medium, 9.5 events/hour.
The amplitude of seismic tremor is medium.
The infrasonic activity is medium. The acoustic pressure of explosions is low, 0.22 bar (standard values <1 bar). The amplitude of puffing is low, ~30 mbar.
Tiltmeters analysis does not show any significant deformation of the volcano edifice
Thermal activity of explosive events is high. The number of thermal transients in the NE sector of the crater (standard = 100) is high, 373. The amplitude of thermal transients is high, 60 ºF. Exit velocity of pyroclasts, estimated through thermal camera analysis, is low, 11 m/s.
MODIS thermal anomalies are low: 6.3 MW (01:48 UTC yesterday).
Rockfall activity is high. The number of rockfalls is 25 per day.
SO2 flux in the NE sector of the crater terrace is medium, 90 t/d
CO2 flux based on the C/S of 35.21 mesured at 13:20 UTC on 2024/08/25 is very high, 3228 t/d
Indice di Attività Vulcanica: high
- Seismic (VLP) rate MEDIUM

- SO2 flux MEDIUM
- CO2 flux VERY HIGH
- Rockfall activity HIGH
The volcanic activity is generally characterized by strombolian explosions MEDIUM pressure (max 0.22 bar) and located at the NE and SW crater sectors. Degassing (puffing/spattering), located at the NE crater sector, is characterized by MEDIUM pressure values (about 30 mbar). The seismic tremor is MEDIUM and exhibit a slight upward trend. The number of VLP events is MEDIUM (9.5 events/hour). The analysis does not show any significant deformation of the volcanic edifice. The number of explosions (thermal transients) is HIGH, with a HIGH thermal amplitude and LOW exit velocity of pyroclasts. MODIS/VIIRS thermal data shows LOW thermal anomaly. SO2 flux shows MEDIUM values (last: 90 t/d recorded on the 24/08/2024). CO2 flux shows VERY HIGH values (last: 3228 t/d based on a C/S ratio of 35.21 evaluated on 2024/08/2024). The rockfall activity is HIGH (25 events detected with LOW pseudo-volumes associated). It should also be noted that at 09:40:19 UTC on 25/08/2024, the monitoring network recorded an above normal explosive event associated with a seismic signal in the VLP band with a maximum amplitude of 1.2x10-5 m (in displacement) and a ground deformation of approximately 0.4 microradians (recorded at the OHO tiltmeter). The explosion generated a maximum infrasonic pressure of 80 Pa localised in the NE crater sector. This event is compatible with a Major explosive event. The volcanic activity index is HIGH.
