Bulletin n. 7142

09/09/2024 - 11:30

The number of VLP seismic events (standard values 5-12) is medium, 10.1 events/hour.

The amplitude of seismic tremor is high.

The infrasonic activity is medium. The acoustic pressure of explosions is low, 0.48 bar (standard values <1 bar). The amplitude of puffing is low, ~30 mbar.

Tiltmeters analysis does not show any significant deformation of the volcano edifice

Thermal activity of explosive events is low. The number of thermal transients in the NE sector of the crater (standard = 100) is low, 6. The amplitude of thermal transients is low, 1.25 ºF. Exit velocity of pyroclasts, estimated through thermal camera analysis, is low, 13 m/s.

MODIS thermal anomalies are low: 5 MW (00:48 UTC yesterday).

Rockfall activity is high. The number of rockfalls is 22 per day.

SO2 flux in the NE sector of the crater terrace is very high, 291 t/d

CO2 flux based on the C/S is not available

Indice di Attività Vulcanica: high

  • Seismic (VLP) rate MEDIUM
  • Seismic tremor HIGH
  • Puffing LOW
  • Acustic pression of explosions LOW
  • Thermal activity LOW
  • SO2 flux VERY HIGH
  • CO2 flux not available
  • Rockfall activity HIGH

The volcanic activity is generally characterized by strombolian explosions located at SW and NE crater sectors. In the last 24h, the Stromboli volcano shows a MEDIUM degassing activity (puffing 30 mbar) located at NE crater sector. The pressure of the explosions is MEDIUM (max acoustic pressure 0.48 bar). The number of thermal transients is LOW, with LOW thermal amplitudes and LOW pyroclast exit velocities. The volcanic tremor shows HIGH values. The number of VLP events is MEDIUM (10.1 events/hour). MODIS/VIIRS images show LOW thermal anomalies (max 5 MW). The SO2 flux measured at the NE crater sector is VERY HIGH (291 t/d). No new data of CO2 flux are avaiable. The rockfall activity is HIGH (22 events detected in the last 24h).The volcanic activity index is HIGH.
