From 10-30 April 2016, the researcher Sébastien Valade (University of Firenze, LGS Research Group), has been invited by the Goma Volcanological Observatory (DR Congo) for a field survey on Nyiragongo and Nyamuragira Volcanoes (Virunga National Park).
This field survey had two main purposes:
- geophysical measurements of Nyiragongo's lava lake, using a thermal infrared camera and an array of infrasonic sensors
- evaluation of the possibility to deploy a permanent infrasonic array, to study the volcanic activity of Nyiragongo and Nyamuragira volcanoes
The expedition has been supported by MONUSCO (United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo).
